Honeybush at the Southern African Mountains Conference.

The Southern African Mountains Conference, held at Champagne Sports Resort in the breathtaking Drakensberg this March, provided an incredible opportunity to showcase honeybush to a captivated audience.

As part of the conference pack, 300 delegates received Bergtee honeybush teabags, giving them a taste of this unique, indigenous tea. Keynote speakers, including high-profile international guests, were also gifted special tea bags to take home.

The conference brought together researchers, NGOs, and citizen scientists, focusing on mountain areas’ social, economic, and environmental aspects. A highlight was Gillian McGregor from Rhodes University, who presented findings from the resource assessment of Cyclopia intermedia, a project supported by DFFE and SANBI.

A huge thank you to Rhodes MSc students, Tafadzwa Makhuza & Huresha Padayachee, who prepared the samples and gift bags. These two also worked as field assistants for the resource assessment, contributing to the sustainability of this incredible plant!

Honeybush continues to gain recognition on both scientific and global platforms. Let’s keep spreading the word about this versatile, sustainable tea.
